Comedian Ed Byrne has revealed he honoured his late brother’s dying wish of having ‘Disco Inferno’ being played while he was cremated.
The stand-up comic said his brother Paul, who passed away with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, wanted to ‘roll into the flames’ to The Trammps’ classic.
Byrne, 50, said he and his family had to honour the late comedy director and writer’s wish.

Paul died aged 44 in February this year following complications from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and liver damage, with his brother Byrne leading the tributes at the time.
Speaking on the Griefcast podcast, Ed said Paul wanted to have one last laugh.
He said: “That has been the interesting thing about this, there’s been a lot of laughter and comedy surrounding the whole thing. Not least when we were planning his funeral.
“Paul’s good friend Tim FitzHigham rang and said ‘I wasn’t sure if I was going to tell you this but I thought you should know that Paul told me that when he died he wanted to be cremated (which we were doing) and he wanted to roll into the flames to Disco Inferno’.
“And he said ‘I don’t know what you want to do with that information’, but we did honour that wish.”
Byrne also revealed that he and Paul were big Pearl Jam fans and on the day of Paul’s death he was moved by a new song about the death of a brother.
He said: “[Being fans of Pearl Jam] was something that we very much shared.
“Pearl Jam’s lead singer Eddie Vedder solo album came out the day Paul died and there’s a song on it called ‘Brother the Cloud’, the opening line of which is ‘I had a brother, now my brother is gone’.
“I don’t believe in a higher power or anything like that but that is some heavy duty coincidence there.”
