Comedian Bob Mortimer says he's not very healthy as body 'packs in'

Bob Mortimer has shared he's "not very well" after a string of health issues. The comedian, aged 63, is suffering from rheumatoid arthritis - and is also taking steroids for the autoimmune disease that causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints.

He told Richard Herring on his Leicester Square Theatre Podcast: "In my mid-20s I got struck down with rheumatoid arthritis. I just woke up and it was like, 'BANG!'"

"I am not very well. I am not very healthy at the moment," he added.

The comic has suffered numerous health scares in recent years after undergoing triple heart bypass surgery in 2015, reports The Mirror. "Yes, I might be fat, but actually I am on steroids… it takes until you are 60 to realise all the things you could have done," he continued.

"At my age, we all feel 47, but then your body packs in." It comes after Bob admitted certain aspects of his failing health have meant him cutting back on a number of things in life he used to love. He shared the sad aspects of his health earlier this year.

Talking to Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch in November, he said: "When you get to my age, it's your joints that go. That's what dominates your life."

He said he sometimes struggles with his knee and elbow joints, revealing they had caused him to give up his passion. "I used to love preparing an exterior of a property ready to paint, but I can't do that anymore", he added.

He suggested doing so could be painful for his shoulders and he admitted he is unable to move his arms and shoulders as freely as he used to when he was younger. After discussing how he'd had a few operations, he told how such procedures help "keep you ticking over".
