Comedian Axel Blake wins Britain's Got Talent's first series after the pandemic

Axel Blake has won Britain's Got Talent 2022 with his stand-up routine, beating top three acts ventriloquist Jamie Leahey and singer Tom Ball.

The 33-year-old from west London delivered a stream of jokes, including that he had heard a member of the public mistaking him for the rapper Stormzy, but with the added weight.

"Words can't even explain I am shaking. I can't believe it," said the winner. Ant said he was thrilled Axel had come top but was annoyed that he was Simon Cowell's golden buzzer act.

Axel also joked about how the intensity of cyclists in London made him have to give up the sport, but that he still keeps up his dance moves, which he demonstrated on stage.

Simon Cowell, who gave the comedian his golden buzzer during the audition round, said that he was emotional for Blake following the routine. He added: “I really believe that we have discovered a star.”

David Walliams added that this was a “winning performance” and that he believed he would “storm” at the Royal Variety Performance.

Jamie Leahey, who came second said: "Thanks for all the support and there's one guy in here, and his name is Lewis Devine and he has helped me so much!" While third-place act Tom said: "Thank you for picking up the phone and voting. I can't believe it it's more than I could have asked for," adding he was back to school on Tuesday."
