Georgia Godwin is back to hunt more Commonwealth Games glory, headlining the Australian artistic gymnastics team to compete in Glasgow.

The 28-year-old, who won two gold in Birmingham among a haul of five medals, will continue her return to the international stage after a ruptured Achilles wrecked her selection chances for the Paris Olympics.

The reigning Commonwealth all-around and vault champion, Godwin will spearhead a 10-strong team of five women and five men.

Glasgow will be eight-time medallist Godwin's third Games appearance, with 25-year-old Emily Whitehead also selected for the third time after both made their debut in the Gold Coast edition.

With four Commonwealth medals in her keeping, Whitehead took time off after the Paris Olympics, but showed she was back to her best with her recent all-around triumph at the Oceania Championships in Brisbane.

"To be named to my third Commonwealth Games team is incredibly special," said Godwin, who sits alongside Allana Slater as Australia's most decorated Games gymnast.

"I'm really proud to represent Australia again, especially after everything it's taken to get back here.

"Birmingham was such a memorable experience, and I'm excited for the opportunity to compete in Glasgow with this team."

Whitehead, Kate McDonald and Breanna Scott all won medals in 2022, while 19-year-old Ruby Pass will make her Commonwealth Games debut despite already competing in Paris, where she placed 13th in the all-around final.

Jesse Moore, who competed at the Paris Olympics as well as in Birmingham, will lead a fresh-faced men's team featuring four debutants: Benjamin Foster, Tru Hagens, James Hardy and Ritam Malik.

The men are looking to win Australia's first team gold since Delhi 2010.

"I'm honoured and proud to be leading the men's team," Moore said.

"Making my debut at Birmingham was a really special experience and it gave me a taste of what it means to compete on that stage and represent Australia.

"We've got a number of athletes experiencing that for the first time in Glasgow, and I hope it's just as memorable for them and the start of a long journey in the green and gold."

Gymnastics Australia boss Alistair Edgar said the team was well balanced and poised to perform strongly in Glasgow.

"With a strong foundation of international experience alongside a group of debutants ready to make their mark, this team is well placed to deliver inspiring performances on the Commonwealth stage," Edgar said.

The Glasgow Games run from July 23 to August 2, with gymnastics events taking place from July 24-28.
