Pride In Leigh is back for the second time ever this year with lots planned for the Wigan -based town. The Spinners Mill will be hosting a number of events and activities to celebrate the occasion starting off with a viewing of ‘Everybody is talking about Jamie’ in their brand-new Film Factory on August 12.
The evening’s aim is to bring people together to enjoy a Pride themed film and give opportunity for the LGBTQ+ community and our allies to enjoy a film that tells an LGBTQ+ story. Last year a small committee of people made history by hosting a Pride festival and summer programme.
For the first time ever, Leigh has its own LGBTQ+ provision bringing together third sector partners to form a summer programme of events.

“For too long Leigh has gone without provision and investment into our diverse communities,” Jess Eastoe, co-founder and Chair of Pride In Leigh, said. “With this massive collaboration of creative and community people I’m excited to host events that cater for everyone in Leigh.
“Pride to me is about respecting the history of the journey to equality and supporting our visibility in a safe environment. Pride started as a protest.
“If trailblazers hadn’t walked then, we wouldn’t be able to run now. The brilliance of Pride In Leigh is that we base our events using the arts, culture and community volunteers and activists to build meaningful provision and stand in unity to acknowledge our colourful and rich history in Leigh.
“Gig with Pride, and Fun with Pride are a celebration of who we are, and what our town has to offer. We can come together to celebrate, whilst understanding those that have fought for our place in society.”
Tickets are available on The Leigh Spinner Mill website. The event organisers are inviting everyone to bring their friends and family.
More events are still yet to be announced as PIL plans their programme, and they are keen to have something for everyone.
Paul Costello, chair of Leigh Film Society, said: “Leigh Film Society are delighted to be part of the Leigh Pride celebrations. Film screenings are a great way to bring people together and raise awareness to important issues on equality, diversity and celebrating everything that’s great about our town.
“Leigh Film is the first film societies to be given permission to screen ‘Everyone’s Talking about Jamie” we’re excited to bring this spectacular musical to the Borough’s first independent cinema ’Leigh Film Factory’ at Leigh Spinners Mill.”
