Columbia College Dean Josef Sorett and General Studies Dean Lisa Rosen-Metsch recently announced that students at Columbia College and the School of General Studies will have the option to elect pass/D/fail grading for up to two classes during the spring 2024 semester, as reported by the Columbia Spectator.
Meanwhile, the university has been experiencing ongoing anti-Israel protests for the past two weeks. The protests have included encampments on campus, NYPD involvement, and a significant number of arrests. On a single night this week, 112 individuals were arrested during the protests at the university.
When a student chooses the pass/fail grading option for a class, it means that they can opt to pass the course without it significantly affecting their grade point average. Instead, they will receive credit hours towards graduation for that class. This option can be particularly beneficial for students who wish to maintain a strong GPA for future academic pursuits, such as applying to graduate school.
