Columbia University has announced that the hybrid model for classes will now extend to final exams, according to a notification sent to students and faculty on Wednesday morning. Provost Angela Olinto stated in an email that all final course assessments, including exams, presentations, and projects, will need to include a remote option for students who require virtual assessment support.
This decision comes as a response to the evolving campus environment at the main Morningside Heights campus, aiming to address the concerns of the university's members. Classes, which are set to conclude on Monday, will continue in a hybrid format for the remainder of the academic year. Final exams are scheduled to take place from May 3 to May 10.
Olinto also mentioned that final assessments at Columbia's Medical Center and Manhattanville campus will proceed as planned, unaffected by the shift to a hybrid model for final exams. The university's commitment to accommodating students' needs during these challenging times is evident in this decision to provide a remote option for final assessments.
