Colts vs. Dolphins: Miami RB De’Von Achane clears concussion protocol

The dynamic Dolphins running back De’Von Achane is inline to play on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts after he said that he cleared concussion protocol, according to ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques.

Achane sustained a concussion in Miami’s Week 5 matchup with the New England Patriots. He’s been a full participant in each practice this week and does not have an injury designation on the Dolphins’ final injury report.

Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel told Louis-Jacques that he is optimistic about Achane playing on Sunday. For more, click here.

This season, Achane hasn’t been able to consistently get things going on the ground, averaging 3.3 yards per rush on the year. However, as we all saw during his 2023 rookie season, he’s extremely dangerous with the ball in his hands, averaging a whopping 7.5 yards per rush.

Achane is also a weapon in the Miami passing game, catching 21-of-22 passes this season at nearly 9.0 yards per catch–the second-highest yards per catch average out of backs with at least 20 targets.

As we all know, the Colts defense have had their issues against the run this season. Over the last three games specifically, the 4.9 yards per rush allowed by Indianapolis is the ninth-most during that stretch. The 22 rushes on the season of 10-plus yards are tied for the third-most.

With Tua Tagovailoa still sidelined for this game, the Dolphins very well could take a run-heavy approach against the Colts. In the last three games, Miami ranks ninth in rush attempts per game, and Achane could be a real stressor for the Colts front seven.
