What the Indianapolis Colts will do when it comes to selecting a quarterback in the 2023 NFL draft is still a mystery, but the high-upside option in Anthony Richardson has now entered the chat.
While we will be debating over the next few months regarding the Colts’ desire to move up to the No. 1 overall pick, it still isn’t clear what the Colts want to do.

Here’s what Chris Trapasso said about the move in his mock draft:
“I think Richardson is going to emphatically remove the lid from Lucas Oil Stadium at the NFL combine. That will lead to the Colts taking a chance on him, given the hiring of former Eagles Shane Steichen as head coach. Richardson has similarities to Jalen Hurts and All-Pro upside.”
Richardson is going to be an extremely polarizing prospect even after the draft is concluded. He has the prototypical size, arm talent and rushing ability that is coveted in today’s game. The upside is tremendous, and that’s what a team is betting on.
The lack of passing production will be a stain on Richardson’s profile. However, his rushing ability raises his floor to the point where it’s understandable if teams want to capture and develop that upside.
Each of the top prospects in the class have question marks surrounding their profiles. There is no blue-chip prospect without worries.
Considering what we’ve seen with Shane Steichen’s ability to produce with Jalen Hurts, it raises the question of whether he could do the same with Richardson.
So while Richardson certainly carries a level of risk, the payoff would be enough to take the chance as long as there’s a concrete plan to reach his ceiling.
