Colts’ Jonathan Taylor hopes to be ready for training camp

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor was absent for the entirety of the offseason workout program after undergoing surgery to repair the ankle injury he played through during the 2022 season.

Taylor told reporters Wednesday at the final minicamp practice that he hopes to be ready for the start of training camp, which is expected to arrive at the end of July.

This is the first instance we’ve had somewhat of a timeline on Taylor’s recovery and eventual return. The ankle surgery cleaned up the issue that limited Taylor to just 11 games this past season and was considered “minimally invasive,” according to a January report from NFL Network.

After his breakout campaign in 2021, Taylor got off to a hot start to the season against the Houston Texans. But the offensive woes and his injuries led to a massive decrease in production. Taylor still managed 1,004 yards from scrimmage in 11 games—including the three snaps he played against the Vikings before leaving due to injury.

Taylor is in the midst of contract extension talks with the team and hopes to get those concluded before the start of the season.

We should express cautious optimism that Taylor will be ready for the start of training camp, which would mark roughly six months since undergoing surgery this offseason.
