Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson did not play on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. However, head coach Shane Steichen is optimistic about his availability this week for the team’s matchup with Miami.
“Unless there’s a setback, yeah, I think he’ll be ready to go,” said Steichen on Monday via The Athletic’s James Boyd.
Richardson has been sidelined since the first half of the Colts eventual Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Richardson suffered an oblique injury while taking a hit to his hip area on a run.
Richardson was considered a game-time decision for this most recent game against the Titans, but according to NFL Network, with Richardson not quite 100 percent, the Colts erred on the side of caution.
Last week when speaking with reporters, Richardson discussed what boxes he would have to check in order to be back on the field:
“Just making sure I can do what I do on the field,” Richardson said. “Making sure I’m putting myself in the best position, putting the team in the best position. Try not to force anything. Try not to rush anything. If I’m not 100 percent, I’m not 100 percent, but it is what it is. I’m going to try to be the best version of myself.”
Prior to exiting the Steelers’ game, Richardson was off to a fast start, completing 3-of-4 passes for 71 yards, which included receptions of 32 yards and 28 yards by Michael Pittman that set up touchdown drives.
Steichen also made it clear that when healthy, Richardson is the starting quarterback.
