The Indianapolis Colts are still having discussions around whether or not defensive tackle DeForest Buckner will return to practice this week.

Buckner has been sidelined since the Colts’ Week 2 matchup against the Green Bay Packers with a high ankle sprain. Buckner was placed on injured reserve, which forces him to miss a minimum of four games–a mark that we just passed on Sunday in Tennessee.
It doesn’t have to be this week, but at any point moving forward since the four game mark has been met, the Colts can designate Buckner to return from IR, which allows him to return to practice.
At that time the designation is made, a 21 day window opens up for the team to add Buckner back to the 53-man roster, making him available on Sundays. The full 21 days doesn’t have to be exercised by the team, Buckner can be active and ready to go at any time once that time frame is activated.
The Colts have very much missed Buckner during this four game stretch. The run defense continues to struggle while the pass rush has been non-existent the last two weeks, which in part, is a product of how opponents are attacking the Colts, but nonetheless, more production is needed.
In the Colts’ Week 1 matchup with Houston, Buckner totaled three pressures and two sacks, according to Pro Football Focus. He was also in on six tackles in the run game as well.
