Colts elevate 2 defenders from practice squad for game vs. Miami

The Indianapolis Colts announced that they will be elevating two defenders from the practice squad for Sunday’s matchup with the Miami Dolphins.

With injuries at linebacker and cornerback, Liam Anderson and Kelvin Joseph will be available for tomorrow’s game.

With EJ Speed being downgraded to doubtful for this game, Anderson as brought up to provide linebacker depth. If he sees the field, however, it will come on special teams with Jaylon Carlies likely lining up next to Zaire Franklin when in nickel and Segun Olubi being the third linebacker when in their base 4-3 defense.

Anderson appeared in one game last season with the Colts, playing eight special teams snaps in Week 17 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Cornerback Chris Lammons was ruled out on Friday, so the elevation of Joseph will provide needed depth at a position group that is already quite thin.

Joseph is a former second-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 2021. He has also spent time with Seattle and Miami, playing 353 career defensive snaps. When on the field, Joseph has allowed 21 completions on 35 targets at 15.0 yards per catch with four pass breakups.

Sam Womack and Jaylon Jones will get the start on the boundary with Kenny Moore in the slot. David Long and Joseph will be available off the bench if needed. Of note, Joseph has primarily been a boundary cornerback, so without Lammons available, my guess is that Womack is the backup nickel option on Sunday.

Each player is able to be elevated from the practice squad to the gameday roster up to three times during the NFL season. For both Anderson and Joseph, this is the first time for each player that they will be elevated.
