Following roster cuts, the Indianapolis Colts claimed cornerback Samuel Womack off waivers. He will now be on the team’s 53-man roster.
Womack was a 2022 fifth-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers and spent his first two seasons with the team. At 5-10 – 189 pounds, Womack has spent time playing both from the slot and on the boundary.
Womack has appeared in 23 games and has seen 216 career regular season snaps on defense. He has shown to be a sound tackler, making 17 of his 18 attempts. In coverage, he allowed 17 completions on 23 targets but limited opponents to only 8.8 yards per catch. He also has special teams experience, playing 337 total snaps.
This preseason, Womack played 128 snaps in three games. He allowed a completion rate of 56.3 percent and 11.3 yards per catch with two pass breakups.
Womack will bolster the depth of the Colts’ cornerback room–a big need with only five cornerbacks on the roster–and he should be able to contribute on special teams right away.
With the addition of Womack, a corresponding roster cut will have to be made to make room or him on the team’s 53-man roster.
