A vibrant cloud of pink, blue, and yellow smoke erupted along Newcastle Foreshore on Sunday morning, as the community donned their whitest t-shirts and laced up their boots for a cause.
More than 150 people took part in the Colour for a Cause, which raised thousands of dollars for local disability support charity Wheeling and Able.
The event was put together by disability service providers Sublime Care and Therapeutic Support.
Sublime Care's head of service and quality Cody Wagstaff said the vision started almost a year ago, and plans were already underway for an event in 2027.
"The whole time we were planning, the idea was to hopefully make it an annual event where we can pick a different local charity each year to showcase and support," she said.
The final fundraising figure is expected to be about $7000, which Wheeling and Able client services manager Kym Blanch said it would help local kids with physical disabilities, providing them equipment to get out and about in their community.
Ms Blanch said the charity was designed to fill the void the National Disability Insurance Scheme sometimes left families in when their child needed equipment urgently.
"They outgrow it what they've got, it breaks or they're currently not eligible for it under their NDIS plan," Ms Blanch said.
"It can take months for the NDIS to review a plan, and that can leave these kids missing out at quite a crucial time.
"This money will go into the bucket and help the next kids that make an application for assistance. It's fantastic that they thought of us in the first place, we're so grateful to be part of the day."
