Colombian authorities took Dairo Antonio Usaga, known as Otoniel, an accused drug trafficker and leader of the Clan del Golfo criminal group to an airport in the capital Bogota to be extradited to the United States on Wednesday, police told Reuters.
Extradition to its top ally is one of the main weapons in the Andean country's arsenal for fighting drug trafficking, as well as one of the outcomes most feared by drug traffickers.
The process of sending the accused drug trafficker to the United States began after Colombia's top administrative tribunal lifted a provisional order suspending Otoniel's extradition.
