Colombia has recorded 58 laboratory-confirmed yellow fever cases and 27 deaths so far in 2026, a case fatality rate of 46.5%, according to preliminary Instituto Nacional de Salud data through Sept. 8, compiled by Outbreak News Today. On Sept. 18, CDC posted a Level 2 travel notice for Colombia, which asks travelers to practice enhanced precautions, citing increasing numbers of yellow fever cases.
The notice matters most for people who already have tickets. CDC says travelers to newly affected areas are now recommended to get vaccinated. It adds that a booster may be given to travelers whose last dose was at least 10 years ago and who will be in higher-risk settings, such as areas of Colombia where cases have been reported. That point runs against a common belief that one dose settles the question for every traveler.
