An unfortunate injury during Saturday’s NAIA-level softball game between No. 4 Southeastern and No. 11 Grand View gave way to one of the most inspiring moments of the sports year so far.
With her team down 4–1 in the top of the fifth inning, Grand View catcher Kaitlyn Moses smashed a ball deep to left center for a go-ahead grand slam. As she approached second base, she collapsed to the ground, unable to get up and finish rounding the bases to give her team a 5–4 lead.
Rules dictate that Moses would have been called out had a Grand View teammate or coach helped her finish her home run trot. However, two Southeastern players quickly answered the call, carrying Moses to touch each base and eventually home plate to give Grand View the lead. The team would go on to win 7–4 and later sweep a doubleheader.
“Words can’t describe how @SEUFireSoftball lifted me up in such a tough moment,” Moses said on Twitter after the game. “Forever appreciative and greatful for the kindness they showed.”
