Mike Elko officially took over as head coach of Texas A&M’s football program on Monday, having been introduced by the team during a press conference.
Elko, who takes over following the expensive departure of Jimbo Fisher, was welcomed by Aggie faithful with a traditional “Aggie War Hymn,” during which he could be seen arm in arm with some of Texas A&M’s brass, participating in the school’s traditional song.
While Aggies fans are likely familiar with the “Aggie War Hymn,” many college football fans were not and they were quite confused after seeing Elko participating in the ceremonial chant, taking to social media with plenty of reactions.

This video is a perfect shibboleth, because A&M fans will see it as proof that they’re still the greatest fanbase in the country even after going 7-5, and their rivals will see it as proof that they’re more than a little bit kooky. And neither are wrong! https://t.co/SPyPqHmMir

This is, by far, the strangest college football program in America. Some of them look very uncomfortable in this video. Lol https://t.co/gP52sSDL2p
