College Football Fans Tired of Gus Johnson Forcing Nickname on Marvin Harrison Jr.

Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. did everything he could to carry No. 2 Ohio State to victory against No. 3 Michigan on Saturday. While the Buckeyes came up just short, as the Wolverines took the win 30–24, Harrison’s brilliant effort did not go unnoticed.

One man eager to comment on Harrison’s greatness was play-by-play man Gus Johnson. After Harrison broke free to score with eight minutes left to play, cutting the Buckeyes’ deficit to 27–24, Johnson praised Harrison with a nickname that the Fox commentator has appeared eager to make stick over the past few months.

“Touchdown! Maserati Marv!” Johnson said as Harrison broke the plane. “Marvin Harrison Jr. with the 14-yard score, and just like that, Ohio State marches it right down the field and scores.”

It's not the first time that Johnson has pitched the nickname on Harrison, as he also pitched the moniker for Marvin after Ohio State's win over Penn State back in October.

This time around, fans were a bit less receptive of Johnson's effort. Simply put, it appeared that Johnson wanted it too much.

While there were plenty of dissenters, there were also those that had grown fond of the nickname with Johnson's persistence.

Harrison finished with five receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough for the Buckeyes. With Harrison likely heading to the draft next year, it appears that he will finish his Ohio State career 0–3 against the Wolverines in “The Game.”
