Ohio State lost to Michigan in heartbreaking fashion as the Wolverines punched their ticket to the Big Ten championship game, ending the Buckeyes regular season. The key drive of the game was Michigan’s last possession, as the offense executed a 13-play, seven-minute drive, which ended in a field goal and drained the clock to around one minute left.
That final Buckeyes defensive possession had fans thinking back to earlier in the year, when Lou Holtz called Ohio State soft before the Buckeyes’ game vs. Notre Dame in September. Ohio State ultimately beat the Fighting Irish that game, and coach Ryan Day called out Holtz postgame.
“I’d like to know where Lou Holtz is right now. What he said about our team … I cannot believe. This is a tough team right here,” Day said moments after that victory.

Now that the Buckeyes lost in their most important game of the season, college football fans made a variety of Lou Holtz jokes at Day’s expense.

Ryan Day has now lost three straight games to Michigan, and his only win in “The Game” as Buckeyes coach came all the way back in 2019. Not only is Ohio State officially eliminated from winning the Big Ten, their spot in the College Football Playoff is also in doubt despite just one loss.
