IN MEMORY of beloved colleague, Tori Cowburn, mining services company Thiess 90 have created a scholarship in her honour.
The Singleton local was tragically killed in the horror Greta wedding bus crash along with nine others on June 11, 2023.
Tori commenced her working career with Thiess as an administration trainee at its Mount Thorley workshop in April, 2012. After completing her traineeship she transferred to the Mt Owen Project, where she continued to work as an admin officer in the maintenance team for the next 11 years.
The 29-year-old had plans to travel overseas at the completion of Mount Owen before returning to Thiess's Muswellbrook Coal Rehabilitation Project, but sadly her life was cut short.
"Tori did not get that opportunity. In Tori's memory, the 'Tori Cowburn Scholarship' will be awarded to a local Hunter region female, to enter and complete their university studies in a discipline specific to mining," Thiess wrote in an online statement.
The successful scholarship recipient will receive $8000 per annum to assist with the costs of completing the associated degree, for a maximum duration of three years.
Female students residing in the Hunter Valley that are interested in studying a mining related discipline such as mining, mechanical or electrical engineering, environmental, geology, surveying, accounting and finance or health at safety, at university are encouraged to apply for the scholarship.
