Colin Cowherd doesn’t see the Lakers as a championship team

In the last several weeks, the Los Angeles Lakers have been surging following multiple trades. As a result, an increasing number of national pundits have considered them legitimate championship contenders.

In fact, a few pundits, including ESPN’s Jay Williams, have picked them to go all the way and claim the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

After the Lakers took Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday, that sentiment has seemingly grown stronger.

But Colin Cowherd isn’t buying the hype or the potential surrounding this team. He said he doesn’t see the Lakers as a championship-caliber team (h/t The Cold Wire).

However, Cowherd pointed out that Anthony Davis has been playing outstanding ball over the last 20 games, and that there may be a bit of an opening for the Purple and Gold, as the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers both exited in the first round of the playoffs.

At this point, anything is possible for a number of teams that are still in the postseason.
