Colin Cowherd understands why Draymond Green is so highly regarded by the Golden State Warriors. He understands why the team’s enforcer is seen as an untouchable member of the rotation. Green has been embroiled in controversy over the past two seasons. First, for punching Jordan Poole during the Warriors 2022 training camp, and now for putting Rudy Gobert in a chokehold.
The NBA has suspended Green for five games. The suspension will cost him $769 thousand. He has been punished for his actions. Yet, Cowherd believes Green’s willingness to defend his team is part of what makes him such a special player in the modern NBA.
“Why would he ever change? Eight-time All-Defensive team,” Cowherd said. “One-time Defensive Player of the Year. Four rings. Absolute lock for a Hall of Famer. And next to Steph Curry, the second most important player in a ten-year dynasty…You may not get Draymond, but Steve Kerr does. Joe Lacob, the billionaire, does. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson do…In the room, on the plane, on the bench, he’s an absolute catalyst…He’s the greatest defensive player in the league over the last decade.”
Green has recently signed a four-year $100 million contract extension to remain with the Warriors. They understand the value he brings to their team, both as a defensive presence and high-IQ guy but also as an agitator and enforcer.
"Why would he ever change? The people that need to understand Draymond Green get him… He's an absolute catalyst."

Once Green has served his suspension, he will undoubtedly be inserted straight back into the Warriors rotation. Cowherd was right; what Green brings to the team far outweighs the negatives.
That’s why he’s seen as such an important piece of their roster and will have a significant hand in any success the franchise will have moving forward.
