Coleraine well-aware of the value of three points says Oran Kearney

Oran Kearney may have been keen to play down the importance of today's game at Cliftonville, but the Coleraine boss knows a win for his side can help reel in the league leaders.

The Bannsiders are one of a posse of teams hoping to hunt down the Reds.

Kearney's men lie six points off top spot after stretching their unbeaten run to 11 games following their 4-1 win over Portadown last week.

Cliftonville, buoyed by Joe Gormley agreeing a new contract with the club, will provide a sterner test this afternoon but the Bannsiders already have two victories over the Reds in the bank this season.

"The memories have been good but I'm not sure that'll have a huge impact on Saturday," said Kearney.

"It's about going and turning up on Saturday and putting in another really good performance.

"You get three points for every win. We got three points against Portadown last week, and there's three points available at Solitude on Saturday.

"Obviously three points on Saturday with them ahead of us in the table. It's someone we want to try and reel in and want to bring closer to us.

"There's an added bonus when you beat the teams above you so from our point of view we're in good form, we're in a good place and we'll go there trying to get the three points.

"We're used to the surface up there - it's the same when they come here.

"We'll not fear that aspect of it and we'll look forward to going there again."

You have to go back to early November for the Bannsiders last defeat, and while Kearney is pleased to be avoiding defeats he is happier that they are picking up wins rather than draws.

"I've been on unbeaten runs before where it's littered with draws which is no good to anybody either so for us it's about picking up three points," he said.

"Our focus last Tuesday night was to pick up three points, our focus last Saturday was to make sure the three points from Tuesday night became a very valuable three points."
