Coleen Rooney has opened up about how she and Wayne have navigated difficult times throughout their 16-year-long marriage.
The couple has faced public scrutiny over the former England footballer’s infidelity during his football career, with him previously apologising for mistakes like visiting brothels.
Speaking on Fearne Cotton's Happy Place podcast, the 38-year-old shared: “Sometimes you might have to, you could draw draw a line under and say this is it, but with me Wayne I've always said there was always love still there.
“So why throw it away when you can work at it? If you work at it and it doesn't work then you know forget about it then and go your own separate ways, but there's always been love there.
“We've never wanted to part but situations are set in where we it could have happened, and you know, we we might not have got through it. But we have and that's the way I've got to look at it and hopefully that's it, you know it's going to be a nice smooth sailing marriage...”
The WAG has previously admitted she came close to ending her marriage when her other half was spotted driving party girl Laura Simpson home after a night out in 2017.
At the time, the footballer was stopped by police and found to be over the drink-driving limit by three times while behind the wheel of Simpson’s car, whom he had met earlier that evening at a bar in Alderley Edge, Cheshire.
The wife of the former Manchester United star then revealed communication has been vital to them overcoming their problems.
She continued: “Just get it out on the table. There's no point in keeping it in because that's where you get yourself all worked up.
“I've seen that happen to so many people, even with the kids I say get it out deal with it get your punishment done and then move on.
“Sometimes people don't like to hear the truth and it can cause arguments but you know you've just got to work through it.”
Discussing the lasting nature of their relationship, Coleen continued: 'Growing up with each other you know we've known each other from a young age... when I look now I was 16 and having my son nearly 15 I think, I was only a baby I was so young.
“But we've grown up together, we've gone through the hard times together, we've gone through good times together, and we know each other well.
“I know that sounds like but you you find some couples and they don't actually know each other that well.
“We're a team and we've helped each other through life and there's things that - we're good at seeing the the the better outcome rather than the worst.”
The couple’s 20-year relationship has weathered multiple cheating scandals, many of which made national headlines.
As a teenager, the striker attracted controversy after reportedly visiting three prostitutes, beginning in 2004 shortly after he joined Manchester United at 18. He allegedly paid Charlotte Glover, then 21, for sex, and was later linked to Gina McCarrick, 37, and Patricia Tierney, 48, at a Liverpool brothel.
Although Coleen was devastated, she chose to stay with him and did not publicly address the rumours, later revealing that the scandal broke before they had even been intimate themselves.
Despite the rocky start, the couple married in 2008. However, more challenges arose in 2010 when it was reported Wayne had again been involved with two prostitutes while Coleen was pregnant with their first son, Kai.
Further incidents surfaced in 2017, 2019, and again in 2021, when Wayne was photographed at a hotel party with young women, where he was seen sleeping in a room with them.
Coleen recently spoke about these struggles as she was pictured in a London airport ahead of rumoured appearance on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!
In light of her speculated TV appearance, The Sun reported that she will be exempt from certain I'm A Celeb trials due to her reactive arthritis. While many stars have their family and friends waiting on the bridge after they get voted out, Coleen won’t have Wayne there.
Wayne, now the manager of Plymouth Argyle in the EFL Championship, will be unable to support her during the show due to his demanding football schedule. His team has matches on November 22, 26, and 30, as well as December 7, 10, and 14.
