Former Emmerdale star Jake Roche has revealed that he is currently living off Universal Credit and staying in his mum's garage amid the current cost of living crisis.
According to The Mirror, the former soap star has branded himself a 'failure' as his current lifestyle is world's away from the fame and fortune he once flourished on. The 30-year-old previously appeared on the ITV soap for a few months back in 2010, where he played Hannah Barton's friend Isaac Nuttal.
Jake also enjoyed a successful pop career, and was the lead vocalist of the band Rixton, who charted at number 1 on the UK Singles Chart with their hit, 'Me and My Broken Heart'.
The 30-year-old star, who is the son of actor Shane Richie and his then wife, Loose Women panellist Coleen Nolan, now deems himself a 'failure' after his entertainment career was put on hold. Jake, who was previously engaged to Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson, shared his thoughts about his career on TikTok after one user asked him what he was up to these days.
To which the former soap star replied: "I'm on Universal Credit, and I live with my mum in her garage. I'm a failure." However, the kind TikTok user was quick to comfort Jake, insisting that he was far from a failure.
"Firstly I'd like to say you are not a failure," they replied. "Everyone goes through hardships in life and you will get through yours." Jake then smiled before saying: "Thank you, you are a legend."
Coleen Nolan's son has also appeared in the BBC musical film Rules of Love and ITV drama Scott and Bailey. Prior to his singing career, Jake, 30, did take a small role in Emmerdale in 2010, but bristles at the thought that being the son of 'Alfie Moon' gave him a leg up.
He said previously: "When I was auditioning they didn’t know who my parents were and I’d also auditioned twice before, so they obviously didn’t care about that or they wouldn’t have turned me down."
