Coldplay's 'Moon Music' record has become the fastest-selling UK album of 2024 by a British act.
The group - made up of Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Johnny Buckland and Will Champion - sold more than 160,000 copies of their new album in 72 hours, and as a result they look set to land the biggest week for a British act on the UK's Official Albums Chart since 2021.
At that time, Adele's album '30' debuted at number one with 261,000 chart units.
If 'Moon Music' continues its impressive numbers, it will be Coldplay's 10th consecutive number one studio album in the UK.
Taylor Swift sold 270,000 copies of her 'The Tortured Poets Department' record earlier this year, to set the record for the fastest-selling album of 2024 so far.
But 'Moon Music' looks on track to defeat it.
Coldplay's latest record was their 10th studio album, and they are only planning to make 12 before hanging up the microphone.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Chris recently said: “We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real. Yeah. I promise.
"Because less is more. And for some of our critics, even less would be even more! It’s really important that we have that limit.
"There’s only seven Harry Potters. There’s only 12 and a half Beatles albums. There’s about the same for Bob Marley, so all of our heroes.
"Also having that limit means the quality control is so high right now, and for a song to make it, it’s almost impossible, which is great. And so where we could be coasting, we’re trying to improve."
