Coked up yob displaying 'severe lack of driving ability' led police on two high speed chases

A yob high on cocaine was jailed after leading police on two high-speed police chases.

David Griffiths, of Buckfast Close, Netherton, failed to stop when a patrol car signalled him to pull over and instead tore through Maghull, Netherton and Aintree on two separate occasions - one in July 2021 and one in August 2021. The 33-year-old was found to have cocaine in his system on both occasions.

Police said during both incidents Griffiths was pursued at "high speeds" and was "insistent on displaying a severe lack of driving ability and respect". Griffiths was found guilty of two counts of dangerous driving, two counts of drug driving and two counts of being in possession of a controlled drug.

The 33-year-old was sentenced to 26 months in prison with an extended two year driving ban upon his release. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "[David Griffiths] has yesterday been sentenced to 26 months imprisonment with an extended two year driving ban upon his release. This relates to two incidents dating back to July 2021 and August 2022.

"On both occasions Griffiths failed to stop for police and engaged in pursuit across the areas of Maghull, Netherton and Aintree. Griffiths was found to be over the legal drug drive limit twice, once being eight times above the legal limit and the second time being found to be five times over the legal limit

Griffiths was found guilty of Dangerous driving (x2), Drug Drive (x2), and Possession of a Controlled Drug (x2). During both incidents Griffiths was pursued at high speeds and was insistent on displaying a severe lack of driving ability and respect for other road users however on both occasions was brought to a halt by skilfully trained officers involved.

"The sentence handed down by Liverpool Crown Court supports our relentless approach to taking criminals of Merseyside's streets."
