Thieves targeted a specialty coffee roasting business and made off with equipment worth around £10k.

CCTV showed up to three raiders helping themselves at the premises of Neighbourhood Coffee on Dock Road at around 11.30pm on Thursday, January 13.

Mark Palmer, who is head of sales at Neighbourhood Coffee specialty coffee roasting company, said: "The burglars were wearing head torches, and came equipped with a crowbar to jack up the shutter and a sledgehammer to get through the door.

"They took items such as home espresso machines in boxes, coffee grinder equipment, along with cash. Altogether we reckon they got away with around £10,000 worth of equipment. They then loaded it all in an Audi car.

"It has an impact and we're all pretty gutted. There is never a good time to have a break-in, but it's not going to affect the business apart from reviewing security.

"It’s a real shame that someone would target an independent business, but the amount of people who have rallied round since we posted about the break-in has been great."

Neighbourhood Coffee was founded seven years ago by directors Edward Peck and Chris Holloway. For the past two years it has traded from a site on Sandon industrial estate on Dock Road.

Mark said: "We supply coffee making equipment to offices, shops, restaurants, as well as for home use. Our customers include such well-known local names as Mowgli, The Climbing Hangar, and The Watering Can."
