Western Bulldogs forward Cody Weightman will miss the early part of the AFL season after being cut down by a groin complaint.

Weightman missed the pre-season clash with the Kangaroos due to groin soreness and the Bulldogs want to take a careful approach with the 22-year-old, who booted 36 goals last season.

No timeline has been set for his return, but he'll definitely miss Saturday's clash with Melbourne at the MCG.
