Cody Simpson has revealed why he believes his whirlwind romance with Miley Cyrus was destined to fail.
The pair enjoyed a fling in 2019 and regularly posted displays of public affection before going their separate ways in 2020.
And it appears as though there are no hard feelings between the two musicians as they get on with life separately.
Speaking on the Kyle and Jackie O podcast Cody, 25, simply admitted they were headed to very "different places".
He said: "It was kind of a mutual decision between us knowing that we were going in different directions in our life.
He revealed that he had high hopes of making it to the Olympics at the time and was heading Down Under to put in the hours of practice required to be a success.
“I had just started training at that point," he explained. "So, my life was changing and I knew I was going to have to move back to Australia to do it properly and professionally and she was just going into her whole new album, was gonna be going out on tour.
"It was a fork-in-the-road kind of scenario, really."
With no hard feelings, Cody admitted he enjoyed his romance with the Wrecking Ball singer.
He added: "We had a great amazing year together and everything, we lived together during all the COVID lockdown stuff."
The pair were first romantically linked shortly after Miley split from ex-husband Liam Hemsworth.
Miley and Liam legally divorced in January 2020.
Despite spending a year together Miley went on to reveal she wasn't destined to spend the rest of her life with Cody.
At the time, she said of the split on an Instagram Live video: "Two halves can’t make a whole, and we’re individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we want to be, like everybody else at this age."
She added: "We’re just deciding who we want to be with our lives, what we want to do with our lives."
There has also been splits elsewhere in the Cyrus household as Miley's parents, country singer Billy Ray and wife Tish have split for third time.
Tish has now filed for divorce according to TMZ, with documents claiming that the couple haven’t lived together for more than two years.
