Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo after it was revealed that his transfer situation has ‘completely changed’.
The Red Devils had been close to signing Gakpo during the summer but opted to spend £86million on Antony from Ajax instead, leaving them without enough funds to also secure a deal for the Netherlands international.
Gakpo has also been strongly linked with a move to Leeds United but it now looks as though the Whites are out of the running due to Gakpo’s continued form throughout the current season, with a number of big clubs, such as Man United, in a better position to secure his signature.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Gakpo’s situation has ‘completely changed’. Speaking on his Here We Go podcast, he said: "Now what’s the situation? That Leeds are still hoping for Cody Gakpo.
“ Southampton have been there for a long time. But from what I’m told now, the status of Cody Gakpo has completely, completely changed.
“So I think it’s going to be really difficult for Leeds and Southampton to go for Cody Gakpo and now there are top clubs following him not just in Premier League.”

Will Man United make a move for Cody Gakpo in January? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
Gakpo registered 21 goals and 15 assists in 47 games across all competitions last season to really put himself on the map ahead of the summer, but his stock has only continued to rise after continuing his scintillating form into the current campaign.
In just 20 games so far this season, the 23-year-old already has 13 goals and 13 assists in all competitions. As a result, some of Europe’s top clubs have taken serious notice of the wideman and a queue is beginning to form outside PSV’s door ahead of January.
United are desperate for further attacking impetus already this season due to Anthony Martial’s recurring injuries, Jadon Sancho’s slow start and Cristano Ronaldo’s uncertain future at the club, while Marcus Rashford is also prone to inconsistency.
Arsenal were also strongly monitoring Gakpo’s situation over the summer and could well look to reignite their interest ahead of January, especially as Mikel Arteta looks to sustain his side’s title push at the top of the Premier League.
But as per GIVEMESPORT, the Red Devils are “more likely” to land the PSV forward than the Gunners, while there is “no doubt” that Gakpo will push for an exit next year following his incredible start to the season.
Man United were quoted with a £38m price tag for Gakpo over the summer, but it can be assumed that has only risen as a result of his remarkable form so far this campaign. Real Madrid are also said to be interested, so there is plenty of competition already.
