Cody Gakpo responds to Arsenal transfer links amid Manchester United interest

Arsenal transfer target Cody Gakpo has insisted that hearing rumours linking him with a big move is "nice to hear" but has reiterated his focus on the World Cup with the Netherlands.

The PSV Eindhoven attacker has been strongly linked with a big-money move in the previous six months after his impressive goalscoring form in the Eredivisie. Since the start of last season, Gakpo has been involved in 66 goals across all competitions and is now playing a vital part in dragging his nation through their World Cup group.

Gakpo has scored in both of the Netherlands' Group A fixtures and has only increased talk of his future ahead of the January transfer window. Arsenal and Manchester United are two teams credited with interest and Mikel Arteta was presented with an opportunity to see Gakpo in action this season in his side's Europa League clash against PSV.

After failing to secure a summer deadline day move to United, Leeds and Southampton, Gakpo has only seen his market value increase. football.london understands that the Gunners are keen on another wide player and centre-midfielder in a bid to boost their chances of lifting their first Premier League title since 2004.

Gakpo doesn't seem to be fazed by the noise around him and has been the Dutch's best player in their World Cup fixtures against Senegal and Ecuador. Ahead of their clash against Qatar on Tuesday, Gakpo was faced with the press and his future was, obviously, brought up.

However, the young forward was reluctant to discuss where his future lies amid talks linking him with the Gunners. "I focus now on the World Cup but it's always nice to hear such rumours," he said. "I just try to focus here and do my best.

"I'm not surprised, I know what I'm capable of but it's always a challenge to reach your highest level possible and I think I'm not near yet. I can improve in a lot of things."
