Leeds United reluctantly signed off on a January loan deal last month, permitting Cody Drameh to join Cardiff City until the end of the season.
Having floated around the first-team setup during the first half of the 2021/22 season, Drameh sought regular senior experience, which presently Leeds were unable to provide.
Nottingham Forest considered a move for the 20-year-old right-back had loanee Djed Spence been recalled by Middlesbrough, however it was Cardiff City and former Leeds striker Steve Morison who secured the England U21 full-back.
Drameh has featured regularly for the Bluebirds, drawing praise from fans, journalists, teammates and his manager whilst on loan.
Marcelo Bielsa expressed concerns about Drameh's development being interrupted as he left the Leeds United bubble, but it appears the youngster's progress has not been hindered in Cardiff's attempts to stave off relegation from the Championship.
Drameh has recorded two assists in eight league appearances for the south Wales club, including one in his latest appearance against Blackpool.
"He has been excellent. He was excellent in his first game, he was excellent at Barnsley, it was a right scrap but there were a few things when he was running back and making last-ditch tackles," Morison said after the side's draw with the Seasiders.
"He had a little bit of a down game, the Bristol City game, but outside of that he has been excellent. Having that break in the Liverpool game when he couldn't play, letting his body catch up on where it needs to be, now he is like a Duracell Bunny, isn't he? He just keeps going and going."
Earlier this month, Morison also vowed that he would try to keep the young defender at the club beyond the end of this season, if an agreement could be reached with Leeds United.
"If he keeps playing like that. They'll have some player on their hands next year.
"If they don't, I'll be the first to put my hand in the air to ask if I can have him back," he said following the Bluebirds' victory over Peterborough United in which Drameh registered an assist.
The 20-year-old is not being given an easy ride in the Championship, either. Morison joked about the youngster wearing gloves ahead of the game versus Blackpool.
"He text me on the way in to say he had a headache!" Morison said.
"We gave him a bit of stick - he tried coming out in gloves today, but I wasn't having that! I made him take them off straight away."
The loanee is often pictured wearing gloves on the pitch and has done throughout his time at Leeds United.
Drameh has also received plaudits from his Bluebirds teammate Ryan Wintle: "You can see that style of play where he has come from Leeds, he is very erratic and he just goes and presses people," he told WalesOnline.
"It helps us when we are sat in a block, because as soon as it goes to the side we just go and pinch the ball, so it's brilliant for us."
Extending his stay at the Championship club may not be as straight-forward as Morison's vow to throw his hat into the ring once again, though.
The defender is contracted to Leeds until the summer of 2024, meaning it is likely he will return to Thorp Arch in three months' time, where his future pathway will be assessed.
