Coco Lee's last post on her Instagram page shared an insight into the "difficult year" she had before her tragic death.
In the Instagram post, she shared a picture of her latest tattoo on her wrist, which read 'love' and 'faith'. She then added the caption: "LOVE & FAITH ~my 2 favorite words that I carry strongly in my heart which I desperately needed to get thru this incredibly difficult year.
"Life seemed unbearable at times but I adapted the attitude of a “female warrior” to face them head on fearlessly but always had the biggest smile and big fat laughters! [sic]"
Coco went on to encourage her fans to "live on," reminding them that there is "only one you".
She concluded: "I’m a female warrior baby! Just like The Great Wall of China I will never fall. If I can overcome anything, so can u! You are not alone, no matter how hard life gets, I’m with u."
It was announced earlier this week that the late singer had died, aged 48, on Wednesday after having been in a coma following an attempt to take her own life over the weekend.
The news was shared by her sister Nancy Lee, who wrote on social media that Coco had been "suffering from depression for a few years" and despite seeking professional help, her mental health issues "took the better of her".
In the post, Nancy reflected on Coco's singing career over the past three decades, sharing that she was "known to have worked tirelessly to open up a new world for Chinese singers in the international music scene."
Nancy added that Coco has now "gone to a happier place and no longer suffers from depression" and asked fans for "time and privacy" as they "take good care of our elderly mother".
She concluded: "Finally, we would like to thank the medical staff again for their dedication to care throughout the whole process," she concluded. "At the same time, we hope that everyone will not only miss Coco, but also share her bright smile, treat people with sincerity, and convey kindness and love to everyone around us, and continue Coco’s wish to let everyone around feel her love and happiness.
"Although Coco stays in the world for not long a time, her rays of light will last forever!"
According to Ctinew, Coco's sister Li Silin confirmed her daughter was a Buddhist and therefore, the funeral will be a Buddhist ceremony, due to take place in August after her autopsy, which is said to take four to six weeks in line with tradition. Fans have also been invited to a memorial service.
Coco was initially a Mandopop singer and went on to voice the heroine, Fa Mulan, in the Mandarin version of Disney's hit film Mulan. She also sang the Mandarin version of the movie’s title tune called Reflection.
She was also recognised for her feature on the 2000 Academy Award and Golden Globe Award winning film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The star sang A Love Before Time on the hit movie.
