Cocktails and eighties music for festive party night at Newcastle's Grainger Market

A drinks trolley serving spiced festive tipples will be making its way around the aisles of Newcastle's Grainger Market during a party night seasonal splurge of food, fun and frolics in the run-up to Christmas.

The Great Market Caper will be back on December 3 for a special edition of the late-night event which brings the traditional city centre market to life after dark. Following on from the success of earlier capers, this one - which will mark the last of the year - is promising to be the liveliest yet.

Besides offering a chance to do some Christmas shopping, the evening will feature pop-up bars - offering the likes of cocktails from award-winning Newcastle bar Mother Mercy and craft beers - and pop-up stages for live music and comedy. And the join-in entertainment will include a 'pianioake' festive singalong with pianist Cam Baker and 'Mariah Fairy' - otherwise known as Romaana Shakir - and lessons in how to dance learn the Charleston and lively Rockin Robin.

They can join in the entertainment, check out the Vintage Night Market selling retro clothing, art and jewellery, and try out various cuisine. Some of the market's own traders such as La Casa Deli, Dumpling and Bun and Fed's fried chicken shop will be opening late for the event and offering festive twists on their menus, and a special guest, The Small Canteen from Sandyford, will be serving a three-course meal showcasing local, seasonal produce.

Other options will include tacos from vegan specialists Cantina Newcastle and street food from Snackwallah, Acropolis and Redheads Mac 'n' Cheese. Drinks-wise, the fully-loaded drinks trolley will be in business and the pop-up bars will offering a new range of drinks.

And setting the musical mood will be DJ sets and live bands laying down a stomping soundtrack of eighties classics, nineties anthems and disco floor fillers. Making a special appearance will be Newcastle singer India Arkin who was the first artist signed to HMV 's new record label.

Themed fancy dress is being encouraged and the person judged best-dressed dancer will win a bottle of prosecco. Organiser Sean Bullick, of Let’s Stick Together Events, said: "“This is such a special time of year and, more than ever this Christmas, we all deserve to let our hair down.

"So I think it’s fair to say we’ve pulled out all the stops to make sure everyone has a cracking Christmas Caper.” For tickets, costing £10, to the Christmas edition of the Great Market Caper, which is a 16-plus event, see here.
