The U.S. Capitol Police recently made a concerning discovery within their headquarters in Washington, D.C. A small bag containing a white powdery substance, later confirmed to be cocaine, was found in a heavily trafficked hallway of the USCP headquarters.
The discovery was made around 1 p.m. on the second floor of the headquarters, an area utilized for storing furniture and supplies. This hallway is frequented by contractors, employees, and is in close proximity to various offices including Prisoner Processing, Crime Scene, Intel, and Reports Processing.
An officer spotted the one-inch-by-one-inch bag in the middle of the floor and promptly reported it to a supervisor. Following the initial field test confirming the substance as cocaine, the USCP has initiated an investigation. Further testing and DNA analysis of the bag's residue are planned to gather more information.
This incident is reminiscent of a similar discovery made at the White House just 10 months prior. In that case, cocaine was found in the West Wing, leading to an evacuation and emergency response. The Secret Service Uniformed Division responded to the situation, determining the item to be non-hazardous after evaluation by the DC Fire Department.
Both incidents highlight the importance of maintaining security and vigilance in high-profile government buildings. The USCP and other agencies involved are working diligently to investigate the source and circumstances surrounding the presence of illicit substances in these sensitive locations.
