Cocaine and steroid addled bodybuilder killed 'warm hearted' dad with punch the force of 'heavyweight boxer'

A cocaine and steroid using bodybuilder killed a "warm-hearted" dad in an unprovoked nightclub attack. Robert Smethurst, 36, was out celebrating his birthday with his cousin Aaron Bates when he was punched with the force of a 'heavyweight boxer' by Robert Owen Greenhalgh, 31.

Mr Smethurst, the company director of an aviation industry firm, had accidentally stepped on Greenhalgh's foot earlier in the evening at the Luxe Lounge in Bradshawgate, Bolton but had apologised and there were no further problems at the time.

Then at around 1:30am Greenhalgh, who describes himself the 'hardest c*** in the North West', punched Mr Bates and Mr Smethurst in an unprovoked attack. Mr Bates was able to break his fall, but the blow to Mr Smethurst caused immediate brain damage and he was pronounced dead about an hour later Manchester Crown Court heard.
