Coal power lifeline risks unreliability, bill shock

A move to keep a state's coal-fired power stations open longer could undermine climate goals and leave households with higher bills if ageing generators repeatedly break down.

The Queensland government's five-year energy plan has confirmed a well-signposted promise to extend the operating lives of state-owned coal plants "as long as needed".
