Coachella has been hit with a $117,000 (£94,000) fine for breaking curfew violations after some musicians continued to perform late into the night.
The popular music festival in Indio, California, overran its approved curfew by more than 20 minutes on all three nights of its first weekend from April 14 to 16.
Music superstar Frank Ocean breached the curfew limit by around 25 minutes on Sunday night, according to Pitchfork.
The singer alerted fans to the breach before exiting the stage. “Guys I’m being told it’s curfew, so that’s the end of the show”, he said.
Additionally, the 1am curfew on Friday and Saturday was broken by 25 minutes and 22 minutes respectively.
The fines are part of an agreement between the city of Indio and festival organisers Goldenvoice that came into effect in 2013.
The agreement states that the festival will receive a $20,000 penalty for going five minutes past curfew each day, with each subsequent minute costing an extra $1,000.
Coachella is one of the biggest music festivals in the world and attracts more than 250,000 spectators each year.
The 2023 festival has boasted a huge line-up of acts including Latino superstar Bad Bunny, K-pop act Blackpink and indie group Blink-182.
It returns for its second weekend starting on Friday.
