A coach of a double decker express train heading to Bengaluru from Chennai derailed at Bisanattam station (located 20 km from Bangarpet) around 11.30 a.m. on May 15. The train was scheduled to reach Bengaluru around 1.30 p.m. No injury or casualty was reported, according to South Western Railway (SWR) officials.
A pair of wheels of a coach (second from the rear) of Dr. MGR Chennai Central - KSR Bengaluru Double Decker Express (train number 22625) derailed soon after leaving Bisanattam station. After detaching the affected coach, the train left for Bengaluru.
Around 130 passengers were travelling in the coach that derailed. All of them were accommodated in other coaches, and the train was expected to reach Bengaluru before 3 p.m.
Senior officers of Bengaluru division rushed to spot with an Accident Relief Train (ART) for restoration of the track. Helpdesks were set up at KSR Bengaluru, Bengaluru Cantonment and Bangarpet stations for the convenience of passengers. The helpline number is 139.
Impact on schedule of other trains
1. Train No. 06529 KSR Bengaluru - Kuppam MEMU special is partially cancelled between Kuppam and Bangarpet, and short terminated at Kuppam. Its pairing Train No. 06530 Kuppam – KSR Bengaluru MEMU Special will originate from Bangarpet.
2. Train No. 12245 Howrah – Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal Bengaluru Duranto Express, which commenced its journey from Howrah on May 14, is diverted via Tirupattur - Magnesite Jn - Omalur - Hosur Jolarpettai Jn. - Kuppam - Bangarapet Jn. -Krishnarajapuram.
3. Train No. 06552 Jolarpettai – KSR Bengaluru Daily MEMU Special, scheduled to depart at 2 p.m. on May 15 will be rescheduled to depart at 4:15 p.m.
4. Train No. 22626 KSR Bengaluru – Dr. MGR Chennai Central Double Decker Superfast Express scheduled to depart at 2.30 p.m. on May 15 will be rescheduled to depart at 4.30 p.m.
5. Train No. 06255 KSR Bengaluru – Mysuru Daily MEMU Special scheduled to depart at 7 p.m. on May 15 will be rescheduled to depart at 9 p.m.
6. Train No. 12640 KSR Bengaluru – Dr. MGR Chennai Central Brindavan Daily Superfast Express scheduled to depart at 3.10 p.m. on May 15 will be rescheduled to depart at 7.10 p.m.
7. Train No. 17235 Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal Bengaluru – Nagercoil Daily Express scheduled to depart at 5.15 p.m. on May 15 will be rescheduled to depart at 6.30 p.m.
8. Train No. 08544 Bengaluru Cantonment – Visakhapatnam Weekly Express Special journey commencing on May 15 will be originated from Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal Bengaluru (instead of Bengaluru Cantonment) and rescheduled to leave at 7.30 p.m.
Earlier on April 21, train services on the Bengaluru-Salem section were disrupted after a goods train derailed between Marandahalli and Rayakottai stations.
