Coach carrying children to Manchester United vs Liverpool 'pelted with beer' by protesting fans

Manchester United fans protesting before their Premier League clash with Liverpool tonight allegedly threw cans of beer at a coach full of children. Thousands of United fans protested near Old Trafford tonight against their owners, with a video shared widely on social media showing one large group throwing objects at a slowly passing coach.

A Moston based coach company, Beeline VIP coaches, re-shared the video which they said showed their coach travelling to the ground with children onboard. The coach was taking Manchester United fans to the game, the post said, and it left those onboard 'frightened to death'.

It appears that those throwing the beer and other objects believed the coach to be carrying Liverpool fans or players but a post from the coach company made it clear this was not the case.

Their Tweet read: "Many thanks you idiots, we were bringing a group of kids to the game (Manchester United Fans) all we’re frightened to death) where we’re the @gmpolice when we needed you to keep the coach and kids safe ???"

In reply to a Tweet checking that they are okay after the incident, they added: "Yeah we're fine. Wouldn’t mind but we had a coach full of kids!"

Protestors first started gathering on Talbot Road and in the Tollgate pub around 5pm to once again protest against the ownership of the club by the Glazer family. The group says the protest is against "an ownership that is systematically starving and killing the greatest football institution in world football, for greed."

Thousands joined the march to the stadium where banners were shown and flares were set off. Some stayed outside the ground to protest while Manchester United beat Liverpool 2-1 but there didn't appear to be any mass walk-outs as had been rumoured before kick off.
