Co Tyrone man keeping thousands cool at Glastonbury

A Co Tyrone man is proving to be a vital cog in the wheel at the Glastonbury festival this weekend in keeping hundreds of thousands of people cool in the warm weather.

Strabane native Gareth Turnbull owns a refrigeration business in England and will be supplying thousands at the iconic music festival in Somerset.

Speaking to BBC News NI, Gareth said he will be keeping the food and drinks cold in the green rooms for the likes of Lizzo, Elton John and Lewis Capaldi.

“It’s a great atmosphere here so far,” Gareth told the BBC.

“What struck me last year at Glastonbury was the Irish community here, you’re meeting people from Derry and all over Ireland.

“We’ve been here for the last two or three weeks now, we’re absolutely flat out and we’re building the refrigeration around the festival.

“We’ve got the privilege of keeping all the green rooms and stages and all the food in there refrigerated.

“It’s a massive task for us. We meet the festival royalty and we’re right in there in terms of the management of the festival.”

The Glastonbury festival officially got underway on Wednesday amid heavy rain in South West England, with better weather set to come in over the weekend.

Arctic Monkeys are set to headline Friday night on the Pyrmaid stage at the festival after their cancelled Dublin show earlier this week, with Guns N Roses and Elton John headlining Saturday and Sunday respectively.
