A Co Tyrone man who works for the NI Ambulance Service has penned a song about the work of his colleagues.

Roddy Lynch, from Strabane, is part of the musical group "Band 5&6" made up of ambulance workers across NI.

The group have recorded the song "Make it Count" to mark the work done by those across the service during the pandemic and beyond.

The song was launched on March 18 and deals with the difference made by key workers during times of emergency.

“What better time than now as we emerge from restrictions, to release a song that celebrates the work of all those on the frontline and those key workers who continue to make it count every day,” Roddy said.

“The song has since become an anthem for all key workers and anyone who made it count throughout the pandemic.

“The band have been playing together for a number of years just for fun to entertain friends and colleagues

“The collaboration has led to us performing at World Mental Health Day and travelling to Manchester to perform their songs at the Suicide Bereavment UK annual conference.”

Roddy himself features on piano and vocals during the song, with colleagues Terry McHugh, Nigel Simpson and Nick Hawryliw forming the rest of the band.

The Co Tyrone musician says it took a while for the single to come together.

“Time flies when you are having fun but it also goes by in a flash when you are working really hard

“It has taken until now before the planets have aligned to release this single and the time is right to make it count.”
