Northern Ireland swimmers brave the cold water for Ukraine appeal

A group of cold water swimmers from Co Fermanagh braved the elements on Friday in an effort to raise funds for war torn Ukraine.

Jakki Collins and her team from Bronzed by Jacqueline in Enniskillen were joined by other swimmers at Rossnowlagh Beach in Donegal.

Those who took part in the moonlight dip raised funds for Unicef Ireland who are helping to support efforts to provide aid to those affected by the Russian invasion of the country.

“We just wanted to do something, we’re not about raising thousands of pounds although if we did that it would be great,” Jakki told MyFermanagh.

“A little goes a long way and it’s better than nothing.

“There is a crisis going on and if we’re in a position to help people then why not.

“We don’t know when we are going to be in a crisis and need this so we just thought we can get together as a team and do the swim.

“It’s everywhere and it’s affecting everyone, when there are children being taken out of their homes I just wanted to do something.

Jakki said many of those who took part in the night time swim had never done cold water swimming before.

She added: “It’s a great experience and it’s great to get out and to be able to meet new people.

“Cold water swimming is not for everyone but we had a great turnout on the night and hopefully it can make a wee difference.”
