CNG prices raised by 80 paise; total hike at Rs 4 in one month

NEW DELHI: A day after raising price of natural gas, the Centre on Friday hiked price of compressed natural gas (CNG) by 80 paise in the national capital.

With this, the cost of CNG in Delhi now stands at Rs 60.81 per kg, up from Rs 60.01 per kg earlier.

This is the 6th time that price of CNG has been hiked in the last 1 month. The total hike now stands at Rs 4 per kg.

The price rise was expected after the government raised the price of gas produced from local fields to a record $6.10 per million British thermal unit from $2.9. This in turn pushed up the input cost for Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) -- the firm which retails CNG and piped cooking gas in the national capital.

However, the cost of piped natural gas (PNG) remains unchanged.

The price rise is consistent with raise in fuel, LPD prices as a result of spike in global energy prices in wake of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

After a record 137-day hiatus, petrol and diesel price revision started from March 22 and has been raised by Rs 6.4 per litre in last 11 days. On the same day, the price of a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder was increased to Rs 949.50 in the national capital. In some places, the LPG price has touched Rs 1,000.
