- CNBC is reportedly launching a streaming service of its programming in the first quarter of 2025, but does not plan to offer additional shows
Add CNBC to the growing number of networks that have a streaming service.
Variety reports the business news channel plans to launch CNBC+, a standalone streaming service, in the first quarter of 2025, allowing people around the world to view its programming.
While other networks, including A&E and Discovery, have launched streaming services of their own, with additional exclusive content, CNBC+ will reportedly not offer new shows and will not have a staff of its own. The focus instead will be on existing programming.
Talk of the financial channel’s streaming service comes on the heels of an announcement by Comcast that it plans to spin off CNBC and several other cable networks from NBCUniversal. (It will keep NBC, Telemundo and the Peacock streaming service under the Comcast banner.) The new $7 billion company would include MSNBC, CNBC, Oxygen, E!, USA Network, Syfy, and Golf Channel.
That comes as cable and satellite subscriptions, as well as advertising revenue, continue to see declines. Comcast has said the spin-off will allow the cable holdings to spend money on their own interests instead of contributing it to a larger corporate fund.
Many large broadcasting companies are struggling as viewers change their habits. Over two days this summer, Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount Global, and AMC Networks wrote down more than $15 billion in cable TV value collectively.
NBC has a history of leaning into digital offerings, with frequent digital extras for the Today show and the NBC News Now online service.
It’s unclear at present what, if anything, CNBC+ will cost viewers.
