Clutter in UK homes is enough to fill Wembley Stadium 310 times

When it comes to moving home, most of us need to have a clear out and declutter, but according to new research, UK homes have enough clutter between them to fill Wembley Stadium’s pitch for the FA Cup Final this weekend a huge 310 times over, new research released today shows.

The poll, by digital-first estate agent Purplebricks, found that more than half (56%) of British households have at least 10 medium-sized (64 litre) boxes of clutter. Within that, one in four (24%) of Brits have 15 or more boxes of junk around their property.

The study also found out how Brits would describe the level of mess in their home. 43% said there is some clutter in their home, 28% believed there was little clutter, one in five (20%) say there is lots of clutter but it is liveable, 4% say their home is spotless and another 4% believe they are a hoarder.

It is not just Wembley Stadium that could be filled multiple times by the amount of clutter in UK households:

  • Centre Court, Wimbledon – filled 2,480 times
  • Twickenham Stadium pitch – filled 255 times
  • Principality Stadium pitch – filled 236 times
  • Murrayfield Stadium pitch – 314 times
  • Vatican City – 5 times

Vince Courtney, Chief Sales Officer at Purplebricks, said: “The majority of us have some clutter in our properties, but it can be quite staggering to see just how much we have between us when compared to some UK stadiums or even a country!

“To think that this weekend’s FA Cup final pitch would have our collective clutter on it 310 times over is quite hard to comprehend. It is advised that when selling your home, you remove clutter from pictures and viewings to make your home more appealing to potential buyers – and getting rid of it before you move might even save on moving costs too.”
