'Club back' - Ally McCoist can relate to what Newcastle United supporters are feeling

Ally McCoist has revealed his soft spot for football in the northeast after sharing his delight at Newcastle United's season. The Magpies will celebrate a top-four finish when the curtain comes down away at Chelsea on Sunday.

It means Champions League football will be coming to St James' Park next season.

Eddie Howe's men have certainly brought the club back to life and there is now a real buzz around the place as supporters look forward to what next season could bring.

They could not have wished for anything better, with just five defeats in the league making this one of the best seasons for some time.

In many ways, McCoist feels Newcastle United fans have their club back once again and says it is evident just how much everyone is enjoying what they are seeing.

Speaking on the Talksport breakfast show with Laura Woods, McCoist said: "How many times have we said it in the past, me and you Laura, that you just wanted the fans to get a wee break and get their team back?

"That's all they wanted. What they have got now is probably beyond their wildest dreams to a certain degree.

"I'm biased but I genuinely love football in the north east. I can relate to it very much like Glasgow and that's why I love it.

"I am so pleased. Going to that place just now, it's electric.

"It's just amazing and you just want them to do well."
